Austria's foods and beverages exports 2023

Austria is a prominent importer of foods and beverages across the global market. These include fish, sugar, cocoa, cereals, fruits, spirits, tobacco, food waste, and various food preparations. Austria import export data shows that over $11 million worth of fresh fish exports were recorded during last year. Germany is the leading importer of frozen fish from Austria with 90% market share. Among the fastest growing markets for Austria fish exports were Hungary, Slovak Republic and Czech Republic.

Whereas, meat preparations exports from Austria were recorded to be $720 million during last fiscal year. There was a 6% increase in the meat preparations exports from Austria in 2023. Over 60% of Austria's meat preparations exports went to Germany. Also, there were some notable shipments to Italy, Hungary, Czech Republic and Romania.


Raw sugar, sweets, and chocolates were other prominent food exports from Austria during last fiscal year. Austria export data suggests that around 400 million dollars worth of foods and beverages exports were recorded with a 10% rise in shipments during FY 2023. The top three markets for Austria's sugar exports were Germany, Italy and Hungary. 


In terms of exports value, Germany ($82 Million), Italy ($45 Million), Hungary ($31 Million), Switzerland ($28 Million) and France ($28 Million) were the leading destinations for Austria's latest sugar and its confectionery exports. In terms of cocoa and its preparations exports, Austria reported $556 worth of cocoa exports during fiscal year 2023 with a decrease of 2.5%. 


Germany, Russia, Czech Republic, Poland and Italy were the major importers of cocoa from Austria in 2023. In terms of Cereals, flour, starch or milk; bakers' wares preparations exports from Austria, the country's sales were 2% up as compared to fiscal year 2022. The total export value was estimated to be $1.5 billion during 2023.


Germany was the top importer of cereals preparations from Austria with $575 million worth during 2023. Among the fastest growing markets for Austria's cereals preparations exports were Italy, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Hungary. Whereas, Austria's vegetables, fruits and nuts preparations exports were recorded to be $958 million during the financial year 2023. 


In terms of top markets for Austria's vegetable preparations exports share were Germany (35%), Italy (12%), France (5%) and the United States (4%). 


Beverages and Spirits are the major exported items from Austria during fiscal year 2023. Austria's major beverage export items were energy drinks like red bull, mineral water, fruit juices, etc. Austria customs data shows that $4.5 billion worth of beverages exports were recorded from Austria during last year. There was a 4% increase in the beverage exports from Austria in 2023.


The majority of beverages exports from Austria went to Germany ($1.2 Billion), United States ($660 Million), Netherlands ($268 Million), and Brazil ($210 Million) in 2023. Red Bull, Rauch Fruchtsafte, and Wildalp Wasserverwertungs were the top beverages export companies from Austria. On the other hand, Austria's tobacco imports were recorded to be $5 million during last fiscal year. The biggest tobacco importers from Austria were Germany (90%), Switzerland, Poland and Bulgaria.
