Kenya's exports are heavily dependent on horticulture and tea. These are the major exports of Kenya. As per Kenya export data reports, around 7.5 billion dollars worth of exports recorded for Kenya during fiscal year 2023. Among which tea, coffee and cut flowers are the major contributors in Kenya's exports.  Tea was the top most export of Kenya.

Kenya’s tea exports were recorded to be $1.38 billion in 2023. Pakistan was the biggest market for Kenya's tea exports with 38% market share. Whereas, Egypt was the second leading tea importer from Kenya with 15% market share. Whereas, Kenyan tea exports found demand from the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Yemen and Iran.


Cut flowers exports show substantial increase in 2023. It was the second most exported commodity from Kenya with around $631 million worth of exports last year. European countries have shown great demand for Kenya's cut flowers. The Netherlands and the United Kingdom were the top markets for Kenya's cut flowers exports with 40% and 17% share respectively. Among the fastest growing markets for cut flowers exports were Saudi Arabia, Germany, Norway and Switzerland.


Coffee was the third biggest export from Kenya with over $335 million worth during last year. Kenya import export data shows that the United States, Germany and Belgium are the top destinations for Kenya's coffee exports with 19%, 14% and 12% share respectively. The fastest growing markets for Kenya's coffee exports were South Korea, Switzerland, Sweden and Norway.


Tropical fruits were another essential commodity export from Kenya with $278 million worth of exports last year. Among the top importers of Kenyan tropical fruits were the Netherlands (33%), United Arab Emirates (15%), France (9%) and Spain (5%). Kenya's major fruits exports were pineapples, mangoes, fruit juice, apples, citrus, etc. 


In terms of beverages exports, Kenya has exported over $300,000 worth of beverages last year. The top markets for Kenya's grape wine exports were Congo (86%) and Rwanda (10%). Also, there were few shipments to Tanzania and Sudan. On the other hand, Kenya's beverages imports were estimated to be $138 million during last year. 

In 2023, Kenya's beverages imports came from the United Kingdom who had over 26% share as shown in Kenya import data. Whereas, South Africa, Tanzania, France, United States of America and the Netherlands were other prominent beverage suppliers to Kenya. Kenya Breweries, Patiala Distillers and Slater & Whittaker were the top beverages trading companies from Kenya with maximum shipments last year.


Kenya accounts for a hefty amount of processed fruits and beverages items production and exports. Kenyan food processing and beverages export companies can further extend their exports across the international market through global import export data providers.
