Vietnam's coffee exports exceeds $4 Bn in 2023
Vietnam was the 7th biggest coffee exporter in the world during fiscal year 2023. Vietnam's coffee exports propelled during last year. According to Vietnam import export data, over 4 billion dollars worth of coffee was exported in 2023. Compared to fiscal year 2022, there was minimal increase in Vietnam's coffee exports as it was $3.2 billion in 2022. During December 2023, the highest amount of coffee exports were estimated to be $514 million.
Switzerland was the biggest coffee importer from Vietnam with around $815 million worth of coffee imports from Vietnam with 23% market share. In terms of Vietnam's coffee exports share, the fastest growing markets were Singapore (12%), Netherlands (11%), Germany (9.4%), Japan (7%) and the United States (5.3%).
According to the latest Vietnam customs data, over $613 million worth of coffee was exported during January 2024. In this period, Switzerland and Singapore were the top coffee importers from Vietnam with 23% and 10% market share respectively. Among the fastest growing markets for Vietnam's coffee exports were the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, United States, Italy and Liechtenstein.
Robusta coffee was the most exported coffee item from Vietnam with 60% share whereas Arabica coffee exports had 40% share. Intimex coffee, Vinh Help, and Simexcodl were the top Vietnam coffee export companies during last year. Whereas, among top coffee importing companies from Vietnam were Bero Coffee (Singapore), Nestrade (Switzerland), Marubeni Corporation (Japan) and Sucden Coffee (Netherlands).
On the other hand, there were over 3,274 coffee import shipments made in 2023. According to Vietnam import data, around 280 million worth of coffee was imported in VIetnam during fiscal year 2023. During October and August, the highest 38 million and 35 million worth of coffee imports from Vietnam were recorded. In which, Robusta coffee has 69% market share whereas 26% share belongs to Arabica coffee.
The leading markets for Vietnamese coffee imports were Laos (51 million), Brazil (34 million), Indonesia (24 million), Colombia (15 million) and Ethiopia (3.8 million). The top coffee export companies from Vietnam were Nestle Vietnam, IGUACU Vietnam and Tata coffee. Whereas, Volcafe from Switzerland, Unicafe from Brazil, and Bero Coffee from Singapore were the top coffee suppliers to Vietnam responsible for maximum number of shipments in 2023.
In January 2024, Vietnam’s coffee imports stood at around $26 million. In which, 66% were robusta coffee and 26% were arabica coffee. During this period, the most favourable destinations by Vietnam’s coffee imports were Laos (13 million), Brazil (3.4 million), Indonesia (1.8 million), Colombia (1.3 million). The fastest growing markets for Vietnam’s coffee imports were Uganda, Peru and Ethiopia.
